German Student Dictionary — Part 84
Dictionary entries, alphabetical: Viertel – vorziehen.
Maskulin Feminin Neutrum Plural
das Viertel — quarter (fraction); neighborhood, district
Plural: die Viertel (unchanged). Two core senses: a mathematical fourth/quarter, and a city neighborhood or district (as drilled below). Also the basis of clock-time phrases like "Viertel nach drei" (quarter past three) and "Viertel vor drei" (quarter to three). The dictionary's own example uses the fraction sense as a bare plural, so it doesn't decline an article and is cited here instead: "Lasst uns den Apfel in vier Viertel schneiden." (Let's cut the apple into four quarters.)

The neighborhood is quiet.
das Viertel (neutrum) = quarter/neighborhood · ruhig = quiet. "Das" — neutrum Nominativ.

Most of the pupils are fourteen years old.
The dictionary's own example. der Schüler = pupil/student · das Jahr = year. "Vierzehn" is invariant, like all cardinal numbers.

das Volleyballspiel — volleyball game
Plural: die Volleyballspiele. Compound of "der Volleyball" (the sport/ball) + "das Spiel" (game) — takes the neuter gender of "Spiel." vor — ahead of; in front of; before
Preposition — takes Dativ in these senses (location without motion, or time). As a two-way preposition, "vor" can also take Akkusativ for motion into a position (not drilled here). The dictionary's third example uses the pronoun "mir" rather than an articled noun, so it's cited here instead of used as a slot: "Sie kommt immer vor mir an." (She always arrives ahead of me.)

vorstellen — to introduce
Separable verb: ich stelle ... vor, du stellst ... vor, er/sie stellt ... vor (the source's own conjugation table was jumbled by OCR into a single run-on line). Governs two objects: "jemanden (Akkusativ) jemandem (Dativ) vorstellen" = to introduce someone to someone. The reflexive form "sich vorstellen" (to imagine) has a different meaning — see its own entry just below.
Herr Braun, ich möchte Sie meinen Eltern vorstellen.
Mr. Brown, I'd like to introduce you to my parents.
The dictionary's own example. Herr Braun = Mr. Brown · meine Eltern = my parents. "Sie" = Akkusativ direct object (the person introduced); "meinen Eltern" = Dativ indirect object (to whom).
sich vorstellen — to imagine
Separable reflexive verb, always with a Dativ reflexive pronoun: mir, dir, sich, uns, euch, sich — "sich (Dativ) etwas vorstellen" = to imagine something. A different meaning from the non-reflexive "vorstellen" (to introduce, above), though built from the same verb. Bundled with "vorstellen" in the source.
Kannst du dir vorstellen, wie sie sich fühlt?
Can you imagine how she must feel?
The dictionary's own example. fühlen = to feel. "Dir" — Dativ reflexive pronoun (du-form), required by this verb.
vorziehen — to prefer
Separable verb: ich ziehe ... vor, du ziehst ... vor, er/sie zieht ... vor (irregular, like "ziehen"). Construction: "etwas (Akkusativ) etwas anderem (Dativ) vorziehen" = to prefer one thing over another.
Ich ziehe Schokoladeneis einem Stück Torte vor.
I prefer chocolate ice cream to a piece of cake.
The dictionary's own example. das Schokoladeneis = chocolate ice cream · das Stück = piece · die Torte = cake. "Einem Stück Torte" — Dativ, the thing being passed over in favor of the Akkusativ direct object "Schokoladeneis."
